Ian Watt is a co-founder of CodeTheCity – an organisation established to promote and apply new thinking and solutions to civic challenges – primarily using Open Data. In late 2015 Ian and his colleagues established ODIAberdeen, the first node in Scotland of the Open Data Institute.
Ian was voted the SOCITM’s Member of the Year 2013 and in the same year was awarded first place in the Local Government category of the Digital Leaders 50 UK poll.
In his day job, Ian has been with Aberdeen City Council for 17 years in a variety of roles. He recently moved from being the local authority’s e-Government Manager to a new post devising and delivering a multi-agency digital strategy for the city region. Additionally, as Aberdeen’s representative, Ian leads the Scottish Cities Alliance’s ERDF-funded programme to provide new Open Data Platforms for all 7 Scottish Cities.
In 2014 Ian led his council’s participation in to EU projects: Code For Europe and Dans-on both of which sought to bring innovative approaches to delivering digital services coupled with Open Data and Open Source code.
